		Personal statement —
→ A recent graduate with a Bachelor of Design with Honours in Spatial Design. My interests and projects are diverse and range from regenerative farming and coastal vegetation to material culture and virtual space. My work is guided by Pacific methodology, storytelling, relational structures, and my experiences in relation to my position in society, relationships and care for people and place.

		Positionality:
I identify as Tangata o le Moana and as an afakasi (Sāmoan and European heritage) Pālagi/Samoan. My connection to Te Moana-nui-a-Kiwa is through my father’s gafa to the village of Iva on the island of Savaii, Sāmoa. My mother’s lineage is of generational migration from England. When identifying my experience as a Sāmoan, I position myself as second generation born in Aotearoa following the migration of my grandparents. However, I also refer to my experiences of feeling stuck between worlds, in the Vā, a child that experienced two very different worlds within the spaces of ethnicity. My father and I were born and raised in Te Whanganui-a-Tara, experiencing the complexities of urban capital city influences. My mother was born and currently lives in Ōtautahi (Christchurch). Acknowledging my gafa which has carried my bloodlines, I aspire as a māmā who hopes to cultivate and preserve a clear understanding of where, who, and what it has taken to weave the person they are. Caring for the old yet embracing the new is a phrase I often think of when caring for my gafa. A child born woven, inheriting variations of migration stories, differing in culture, place and perspective.
