Embarking on this project, my primary focus was on creating a captivating virtual environment. It's a space dedicated to delving into the rich tapestry of Pacific material culture, the intricacies of Pacific methodologies, and the deeply personal narrative of my Samoan family's history in Aotearoa.
Project Title: Gafa Lalaga

Project Overview: In a world where the Pacific Islands face the imminent threat of submersion by Te Moana-nui-a-kiwa, and the rich tapestry of land and cultures confronts the challenges of adaptation, this project emerges as a beacon of cultural preservation and resilience. Our mission is to explore and safeguard the "va" – the interconnectedness between Pacific Islands – through the dimensions of time, space, and the preservation of essential elements: practice, knowledge, and material culture. We aim to achieve this by harnessing the potential of virtual space while staying rooted in our cultural identities and experiences.

Project Objectives:

To understand and document the evolving dynamics of the "va" among Pacific Islands as they adapt to changing environmental conditions.

To create a digital repository for preserving traditional practices, knowledge, and material culture of Pacific Island communities.

To foster cross-generational knowledge transfer by utilizing virtual and physical spaces.

To promote cultural resilience and adaptation in the face of environmental challenges through technology.
